6 volt or 12 volt

    like i said in previous thread,want to keep it close to stock, what are your thoughts on the voltage system. seems to me that 12 volt will be alot more friendly

    The biggest disadvantage I see is if you ever need a jump start. :D

    Later CJ5's came with 12v generator/voltage reg. system. You could put a 12v system in and say it is original, because it would technically be. ;)

    what needs to be changed aside from the lights and such, on the motor and ignition to convert to 12 volt? points,condenser,???. whole distributer? will wiring harness be o.k. just lights,turn signals, any dash lights right?

    For the ignition the coil and add a resister. The fuel gage also needs attention. If the wipers are electric. If the wiring harness was ok before it will still be ok. Do not forget the charging system and battery.

    the 6v starter and horn will work on 12v. I run both on 12v and they work fine. Just change the fuel gauge, lights and coil. You should be good.
