This is my cj5 I got a while ago. It had been siting in this spot for 15 years that I know of. Took a few weeks to track down the owner and a phone number then 2 weeks and $400 after that it wes mine.

  4. Were there no turn signals on the grille?

The turn signals were mounted on the front of the fenders. When you look at the back of the grill you can see where the holes have been filled in. You can still see where they were in the pic

Interesting specimen you have there. Wonder if that 6 cyl is stock too.

The motor was fitted by the guy I got it off, its a 250 CI out of a 74 falcon. It came from the factory with 170 CI six same as fitted to early 60's falcons, the vacum assist was added by some one as well. These jeeps were marketed as Combat 6. I don't think they ever sold the v6 over here. The pics show the rear bar that I cut the ends off and moved it so it sits over the rear crossmember. There was a 4 inch gap between the bar and crossmember. Removed motor, box and t/case as well.

Hi, have sorted out some pics so here thay are. I pulled the rear end, cleaned up the springs, replaced the spring bushes and overhauled the diff. I fitted a lockright while I had the diff apart.
When I pulled the t90 apart it was full of water and all the gears were pitted. I got a t90/c off a guy I know and overhauled the t/case.

A guy I work with gave me a motor. It came out of his brothers car and he was just going to dump it.
Painted the box and t/case, fitted them to motor with a new clutch and put them in the frame.

More pics. With the chassis on 4 wheels again I started work on the fenders and grill. Picked up a very rusty 74 cj6 for parts. Dana 30 will be regeared and fitted to the 5 and non rusty bits will be used to patch the body.

Thanks Walt, got some pics of the fenders. When I started to sand them I found the front lip was full of rust hole full of filler. Wasn't sure what to do, so as they were not in the best of shape I cut the edge off.

With the fenders and grill done, the cj6 was cut up and the shed cleaned up to make way for the tub. As you can see the tub is rusty. The ugly dash will be replaced as well.

The start of the tub. I had cut the left front floor out before I took the pics. Started folding some sheet to make a new one.
Sanded the side panel to see how bad the rust was.
After cutting it out I found the support was rusty so it got the chop too.
    The one I made.
    Patch in place.

After going through my tub, I see all the Early CJ's rust out in the same places. Looking good, ozzieGeoff. I spent several months fixing my tub and getting it ready for paint. I was "shocked and amazed" to find this on both sides of my tub. The PO had pop riveted sheetmetal over the rust and covered with a liberal amount of Bondo.

those pics worry me a little bit posi. On my passenger side, in the exact same spot is a patch of rust covered in bondo. I sure am hoping it dont look like that when I get into it.
