Am installing a v6 in my CJ2A and would like to relocate the battery on the engine side passenger sid about wher the later model Cjs have their batteries. Any suggestions out there.

Heres a few different angles of battery tray that I fabbed up with and without the fenders on.

If you look closely, you can see I had to notch out the fender a bit. Ill have to box it in later.

Thanks for the pics, a good idea, had not thought of rotating the battery 90 degrees, trying to use a factory late model jeep tray.

On my DJ5, I am tunnelling the battery into the firewall in the location similar to the M38A1 only accessed from the engine compartment instead of the top of the cowl. Sorry, don't have any pictures.

If you think about it, the battery really shouldn't be hanging off the body as far as metal fatique, it should be hung from the frame, preferably closer to the back right of the vehicle.

Sounds reasonable but most newer jeeps have it hung off the firewall

Perhaps not what you want to see but this has withstood 36 years with no alterations-about the only thing that hasn't changed from the chassie pic. It would be better from a vehicle weight balance perspective to have it on the right side as noted above, but there isn't enough space there with a D18. It would work on the right with a D20.

mine is behind the driver seat under the floor too. I used a tool box lid from the passenger side and welded it into the floorboards for the access cover.

With proper support off the firewall works fine. Mines been there for 20 plus years on the '59-5. I've raced it, endo'd it, rolled it, and generally beat the snot out of with no cracking or other issues.
