6 Volt Heater Motor Wiring

    Ok, after gutting and replacing the entire 6 volt electrical system on a 55 CJ5, I seem to have lost every ounce of sense left in me.

    I am replacing the heater that was in it with a Jegs 12,000 BTU box heater. It came with a 12 volt motor that I replaced with a 6 volt motor. The 6 volt motor has 2 wires, red and black. I also have a 6 volt switch with 2 poles, B (from the battery) and M (to the motor).

    Use your multimeter and check that neither wire is connected to the case of the motor - they should both be insulated from the case. If there is continuity between the case and either wire, that wire must be ground.

    I would expect black is ground and red is hot (positive). Should not matter unless it's a permanent magnet motor, and even then it just will make the motor run backwards.

    Thanks, I thought that was correct but my brain shut down after all of the wiring I did!

    Thanks for the replies. It seems to be pumping out some nice heat. The install wasn’t too bad. I only had to make 2 lolmodifications, the oil bath support mount on the inside of the fire wall had to be cut as it was a u channel support and the heater was a touch wide and wouldn’t fit.
    Also, the glove box was too deep and I had to refabricate it to be shallower as the heater fits just behind it. I did drill a hole in the dashboard to mount the switch as I didn’t want it hanging down. I will post pics later.
