Since the previous owners hacked up the stock radio spot I decided to just shove one of my commercial Motorolas in there. Need to get a trim ring made up for it.

A couple of birthdays ago, my brothers gave me a set of side steps for my '68 jeep. I finally got to the point in the project where I could use them. Installing the driver's side wasn't too difficult, but I had to remove the seat and underseat gas tank in order to drill holes for the supports.

A support angles from the step to existing holes in the frame.

The passenger side was a lot more difficult because the muffler is in the way of the step-to-frame support. I had to modify the support to go around the muffler.

All this talk of V8 swapped jeeps has me eyeing a 440 mill, again. I've wanted to put one in a jeep for a few years now. I think it would fit perfectly in the 3b. :sneak:

Sooooo I can't blame HF for this one. Looks like I didn't get the flux off and it caused the corrosion.

But since I was here, I replaced the battery cables and a few other connections that didn't look good, added Ox guard to all connections, removed the voltage regulator that is no longer used, and installed a new starter solenoid, and generally "neatenized" the wiring and rezip tied everything. I tested the setup and was able to start the Jeep with the front battery completely removed.:bananatool:

Now I need to drive it again and see if I still have trouble starting it when it gets warm. I have a new starter coming, if I don't have any issues, I'll throw the starter in the trailer for a spare.

I go to the desert with friends several times a year. On these trips the dust can get pretty bad and visibility suffers. On our Thanksgiving trip my buddy was telling me he couldn't tell it was me behind him with my bumper lights on. As I let faster vehicles go around me he saw their lights and assumed it was me. I need something more distinctive. I saw a few vehicles with trail lights and those lights penetrated the dust very well. Coming up behind one I could see it's amber light clearly regardless of dust. I came home with a plan to add some to my dust covered CJ. I found a 2 light package and put one on the front and one on the back. Not sure I like the unbalanced look of only one on the front, but we'll see if I ever do anything about it. Front location may get moved anyway if I ever bolt on the old Warn winch I have. Both lights are switched together, I figure anytime I need the one I'll want the other.

My other goal this month is to install the Aussie Locker I bought for the Dana 30, and to fix the leak in the front tire that sprung on this last trip. Hopefully it's not a gash in the sidewall. We were in some rock but it wasn't that big.

I remember when I still lived out there it was pretty common when going out in groups to get one of those rotating beacons in yellow for the top of your vehicle. I've thought about instituting it for the front and rear vehicles on group events. Would make it easier to spot your trailing Jeep from the front and vice versa.

SOmething like this. Granted the magnet option wont' work well on most CJs ha.

I was an engineer working for Granite Construction Company building the Spinney Mountain dam. Didn't have my jeep then, but I had a 4WD company truck!

  11. not much, but i got some spacers from another member, and installed them.
i think the hubs look better sunk in like that, and are less likely to get ripped off in a slim area.

I got to drive the Jeep today!!!! The Suburban needs upper arm bushings, and they don't use stock ones. So I tore it apart and took the arm to several of the parts places...... All I get are shrugs,,, and to top it off when I come out there is antifreeze dripping from under the pass seat ???:worry: When I got home I checked it out , the heater box is leaking, check the engine compartment and all is dry.. so I ordered a heater core and guessed on some bushings, we'll see.

But at least I got to drive the Jeep....... and the girl at the drive thru came out and took a pix:D

Expect the front end to be a little more sensitive to changes in the road and consider the button head spindle bolt mod for the knuckles. Your taking the centerline of the wheel out of line with the axis of the kingpins so it's going to handle a little different.
