    SM420 is being driven over today and I will take a look at it and store it on a shelf somewhere. Just rolled under my jeep last night and have the first good hard look at the underside. Frame is solid (no rust) and axles are clean. However, the t-case and tranny are covered in fluid and leaked everywhere. It's a good thing I planned for a frame off. However, I will be starting with the CJ7 and leaving the CJ5 off to the side for now.

    I can keep posting updates on the CJ7 on here as I go through the rebuild with pictures or I can move it to another forum as this is earlyCJ5.

    CJ5 is finally at it's temporary home at work in the Machine Shop's corner. The CJ7 is in the garage about to have the trans and t-case pulled tomorrow. The T-18 will be ready by the end of the month and the Dana 300 will be ready the end of April (tight money causes slow turn around times). The engine will be done by May with the the help of fellow member numbersix. Both numbersix and John from R&P 4WD will be over tomorrow to help with the trans and t-case.

    You can do both here if you want - we have lots of folks with 'other' projects... Though as you have noticed - we are a little more restrictive on some things than Pirate :)

    We all make mistakes - and we can move along with a better understanding now.

    the t-18 is a great tranny. the sm420 is a beast! i have that going in my 68 cj5. the 2nd lowest granny gear every put out from what i have seen.
    stock dana 18 =2.46:1
    sm420 = 7.06:1 in granny
    4.27 gear = 74:1 crawl ratio and a 1:1 final factory drive ratio with 33" meats. the t-18 isnt far behind it tho...i dont know if its as strong as the 420 tho...would be curious to find out.

    when needed, itll creep and crawl, then get back on the highway and head home and itll never even know you have big tires.
    i think you got lucky on the t-5 as well..
    a blessing in disguise.
