Downshifting With 3-Speed

    It has not jumped out of gear on me, and I have gotten off the gas suddenly a few times and have also done some engine braking on a steep grade.

    Then your synchros are probably not your problem.

    Not necessarily true. The blocking ring portion (commonly referred to as a synchro) of the synchronizer assembly simply helps bring the speed of the parts together for engagement which if worn out can cause hard shifting. The blocking ring does not hold the parts in mesh so just because the transmission doesn't jump out of gear doesn't mean it's not worn and won't shift hard.

    Yes - I think the jumping out is more a factor of loose shafts and bearings, letting the gears "walk' out of engagement.

    Yup. Or the dog teeth on the gear or inside the sleeve being worn which is also common, detent springs for the shift rails worn, the synchronizer keys or springs worn also.

    I am holding out hope that the clutch pedal is not disengaging the clutch fully. In looking at the manual, there is an adjustment on a cable. Is this what I need to adjust?
