OE tire size

    what size are the original wheels and tires on these early cj's? i have 215 70 r15 on mine and they look small.

    The answer is... It depends. I have conjecture but little to point to the master-wheel-authority document.

    i think on the CJ5, 15x4.5 wheels were with 4cyl applications up thru Kaiser ownership.

    The v6 universal seems to have been fitted with 15x5.5.

    after Kaiser, some changes...

    but there were special application others... I'm not sure what CJs came with 16" wheels, or which specific jeeps came with the 15x8 versions.

    some others will help us out I'm sure.

    i just put a set of old school looking, Hercules HDT 7.50 on my vintage set of 15x5.5. They look nice next to the cooper 30x10.5x15 they will replace. They also look a smidge taller, but officially they are 28" I think. In my build thread are Picts.

    Here's a small list from an original flyer.

    Short answer, it depends. Jeeps were put together in their base form at the factory and often had options added to suit the customer's needs at the dealer.

    Tires:
    9:00 X 13, High Flotation;
    7:00 X 16, 6-ply All Service;
    7:60 X 15 Suburbanite;
    7:00 X 15 All Service, Studded Tread or 6-ply;
    6:00 X 16 Rib Tread or 6-ply;
    6:00 X 15 Rib Tread 6-ply.
