how much does a jeep weigh

OK, this may sound like a silly question, but I am trying to figure if I can carry two jeeps on my trailer. It has two 3500 pound axles.

    per the manual
    GVW = 3750
    Shipping weight = 2163
    curb weight = 2274

I'm guessing that the shipping weight would be the load on my trailer, but if I subtract shipping from GVW I come up with 1597 pounds. I didn't think that the max load in a jeep was 3/4 ton.

I don't know what curb weight is; probably weight with fluids, etc. These are old jeeps, so most of the fluids have leaked out by now...

    Any "weighty" answers out there?

    thanks

I was thinking they were officially half-ton trucks.

In a previous life mine weighed 5200Lbs when full of water and two firemen. That was stock axles but heavy-duty springs. This doesn't help you much. I'm just saying it here in case you're interested in the load these old jeeps can take.

Thanks, but I am interested in what these beasts would weigh, dare I say it?? "topless" on my trailer.

Curb weight is with gas, oil and water, shipping weight is basically empty.
GVW is the vehicles weight + what it can carry total.

So does that make it a 3/4 ton truck? Nope. Just did the math. I guess then that's a half-ton of cargo plus two men to load it.

    Weren't CJ's originally considered 1/4-tons?

We have a trailer with the same axles. 3500 lbs each.
And I have hauled over their limits a few times. A short distance in a rural area. A couple of jeeps would weigh in about 4,000 pounds total. Plus your 2000 pounds on your trailer. Comes out to 6,000 pounds. Looks like you would have a spare 1,000 pounds to haul.

I would suggust if you do haul 2 jeeps, you have enough pickup and brakes to stop it. Are you making a long trip?

    Regards

I have a 16 ft trailer with double axles. I've had it loaded with about 7500-8000 lbs. Pulled ok but I was only going a short ways (15 mi.) and not traveling fast, maybe 35. I wouldn't do it again. 5000 should be fine though. Walt

kamel, zap down to your local truck stop and weigh your Jeeps.Usualy costs about 3$ each.CT hit a good point on the tractor brakes, be sure you have enough. Nothing worse than a nasty brake suprise comming down the back side of gobblers knob.
