My first thought was timing. Other then that like the others said, change cond. and then comp test.

Changed the condenser and no luck. i will do a compression test this weekend, i gotta go buy a gauge set, my buddy i used to borrow it from moved to WV. i just wonder how it could have gotten stuck from sitting for a year. it was on a pallet and covered in a tarp and i had the exhaust taped off.

Sorry that wasn't it. Time to dig a little deeper .

If he has a stuck valve couldn't he pull the side cover and check and see if one is stuck or not? since he doesn't have a gauge?

Compression gauge is really not much money, and a great tool to have. Would take much longer to pull the covers, and cost money for new gaskets.

Now that i think about it, i did replace that side gasket, but i didn't touch anything while i was in there. i could easily remove it and put it back on without damaging the gasket. but i'll just buy the gauge. its only about $20.

I would go back through and check your valve timing again.........roll #1 up to TDC via the finger compression method.........if you have the side cover off verify that both the intake and exhaust valves are both closed ( at lash ).........look in the spark hole and see if you can verify that the piston is all the way up...........turn the motor over by hand now using a breaker bar in the front crank hub and while watching the piston if you can , see if you can rotate it back and forth to the point where the piston stalls for a few degrees at TDC.............That should be TDC #1 or within a degree or so..........at that point now look at your front hub and see if the timing marks line up on zero...........if they do ...........now pull your cap and see if the rotor is pointing to #1 plug wire.........if not rewire the cap. If your timing marks at the hub do not line up you have a gear or chain that has perhaps jumped a tooth between the camshaft and the crank.........

If you were able to determine compression stroke on number 1 cylinder then you can do the same thing with the other 3, and that will not cost anything. You obviously won't get compression with a stuck open valve.

Did you ever get this thing running?

Not yet. the autoparts store gave me the wrong points for it and i can find my old one's now so it is sitting until i can get points and look into it further

at you flaps, sometimes you have to switch years for the parts guys

have you tried calling up walcks, or kaiserwilly? they would probably have too

from my couple hours crossing stuff and looking, it appears the: Prestolite Part# 1-47V point set will work.

IAT-4405 would use Echlin CS729A points. Condenser Echlin AL68.

Rock Auto has the points for the CJ5 with the IAT 4405 distributor mounted to the F-head 134 engine.
    Part number AL5486P.

Got the points and condenser in, same problem. i pulled each plug and put my finger over each hole, all of them have compression. so i guess it jumped a tooth on the timing gear or the distributor got turned a little bit during the engine swap. how do i check and adjust the timing with the distributor? only engine knowledge i have is lawnmowers, snowmobiles and outboard motors.

    Yea, that's a timing issue.

Bring #1 to TDC on compression stroke. Align the rotor with the #1 spark plug wire position on the cap. This should get you close enough to get it run. Adjust timing from there. Make sure the plug wires are installed in their proper position or none of this will matter or help.

Just a thought: You said you had the plug wires off, are you sure you have them on in the correct order? Wouldn't be the first time someone put the plug wires on the cap in the wrong direction. DAMHIK.

Sounds like the timing is way early. Rotate the distributor slightly in the direction of rotor rotation and try it again. (What direction does the rotor rotate in an F head anyway? Never owned one..)
