I just pulled out the tranny in my 66 CJ5 and the gears are toast. The tranny that I pulled out is a T-86. I have a buick 231 V6 and was wondering if a T90 would bolt up to it or what I would have to do to make it bolt up. I know I can switch the guts into the T86 from the T90 but will the T90 work with out changing the cases?

I'd think the T-14 would be a candidate, but some say they're really really weak.

To use your existing bellhousing/adapter to the engine you will have to use the T-86 case as it has a different bolt pattern on the front. Get a long input shaft T-90 and put all the guts in the T-86 and there you go. You will also need the T-90 shift top or change one of the shift forks in the T-86 top as one is different. I forget which one. The T-86 and T-14 were never noted for their strength. The T-90 is not a huge improvement but parts are MUCH more available. Nickmil.

or you can get just the new long shaft and possibly a used adapter from herm. to make the t90 bolt up to the buick bell housing. I just did this swap a month ago. If you need any info shooy me a PM.
