Please help. My 1970 cj5 , with a 225 v6 engine needs a clutch. Had one installed last year and it was a failure. It was so hard to push in that it collapsed a brand new clutch cable. I have looked online and see diaphragm clutches that should fit, I never saw my original clutch as I was out of town when it was replaced and don't know if it was the 3 finger type or whatever. Will a diaphragm type pressure plate work with the same clutch fork as a finger type pressure plate What type and where can I buy whatever it takes to make things right? thank you

You should be able to use either diaphram type or 3 finger Borg Beck.
They use different throw out bearings otherwise they fit the same.
I have both types on hand which are genuine OEM NOS but sorry they are not for sale.
The original 3 finger yeild slightly higher plate pressure than the diaphram.
If I recall correctly the 3 finger type was not installed prior to 1970.

A couple of years ago I had my clutch on my 1971 V6 CJ replaced at a local transmission shop. The Jeep was originally equipped with the 3 finger clutch. The shop said that they could not get the diaphragm type clutch to work right (maybe they were not using the right bearing), and said that they could not locate a replacement 3 finger clutch, so they had the original 3 finger clutch rebuilt and put it back in my Jeep. When I got it back, clutch pedal was very hard to press and I snapped my clutch cable.

When I took a look under the Jeep, I saw that shop had screwed up and not run my clutch cable in a continuous loop, but instead had run the cable in such a manner that it had a "S" curve in it. This was causing the cable to bind, and made the clutch pedal very hard to press. When I replaced the cable, and ran it correctly, the clutch pedal was again easy to operate. Needless to say I will never return to that transmission shop.

I have used the LUK kits several times with good success. They are the diaphragm type, I can get the part number for you tomorrow if you want.
