Just curious if anyone knows if a top cowl from an intermediate cj5, would fit a early cj5. I've looked around & only see ones for flat fenders & intermediate. Mines pretty hacked up & considering a replacement, it's going to be a lot of work either way.

An intermediate should work, my 74 looks the same as my 60's cj's. The cowl that it.
Where are you located? I have one in my scrap pile... It's in good shape but I have no use for it since cowls never go bad (usually)

The only difference will be instead of having the raised area by the pass side you will have some vents along the cowl, but if your not building a show rig your fine

What's a "top cowl?" I know what a cowl is. Are you talking about the body between the hood and the windshield?

Yeah the piece between the hood & windshield, that's what I'd always heard of it being called. Is there another name that refers to it? Just cowl?

Dunno. I've always heard it referred to as the cowl. Certainly the vent in the middle of it is the cowl vent. Jeep calls the panel "PANEL, cowl top" as in the top part of the cowl. But the bottom part of the cowl, for a CJ, is part of the body side.

The only difference that I can think of is that the intermediate has the grill for the airbox opening in the middle of the cowl. The earlier 5's do not have this opening.

    FWIW,
