I just ordered an original seat mount from one of the guys on here. After that I'm going to try and remount column lower into dash while installing power steering

Body, interior and chassis (not drivetrain) parts are scarce for the intermediates. AMC introduced them to freshen up the CJs after they bought the company. Some things were obvious to upgrade, like brakes and steering. They also lengthened the chassis so the engine compartment would fit their excellent inline 6s. IMO the 304 was offered to directly compete with the Bronco.

The earlier Jeeps had a long run (1955-71), and the drivetrain changes a lot with the 1972 model year - engines, transmissions, transfer case, axles, brakes, steering, etc etc.

1976 saw a nearly 100% overhaul of the CJs by AMC, and the great majority of parts from '76 and later are not compatible with the intermediates.

Might also search "wheel well notch". It allows you to move the seat back a couple inches which makes a huge difference. You can tilt the seat back more also gaining head room.

The major change actually changed for model year 1972. 1971 was still the short fenders although there were some very early production '72 models with the changes produced in late 1971.

RE: Might also search "wheel well notch"

Will this be an issue with the large tires, or is it more just "rounding" off the wheel well thus not changing the overall clearance??

Generally not an issue with 33" tires but it also depends on how large or deep you make the notch.

FWIW - I did a very mild notch on mine and my 33x10.50's so far haven't had an issue. I probably could've gone deeper with it. Also, I haven't put it through its paces yet with the new configuration, but it does seem to have more than ample clearance.

Ah, Acton. Almost bought there in the mid-80's, son was born in Palmdale, hospital gone now - new OB then. Had some ex-good friends that had 10 acres on the SE end.
Was lucky that the fire roads were still open in Angeles. we cruised the devil out of them in my second CJ5.
Is that wheeling spot still open near the Little Rock reservoir? Got nailed by the CHP coming out of there one time for have rock screens on my head lights.
They would sit out there at the end of the day and nail folks for the most minor of infractions.
