Wiring Harness diagram for 1962 CJ6

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by The Anesthesiologist, Aug 3, 2014.

  1. Hello all,

After I finish up the front end of my '62 CJ5 I am hoping to install most of the wiring harness before I mount the tub. I have a few pictures of wiring diagrams in black from an old manual and I was wondering if anybody had a wiring diagrams that was color coded? Or something easier to understand?

    Thank you!

Pretty sure there's one on the old site (earlyCJ5.com) which was lost and had a technical forum - look here https://web.archive.org/web/20090802034217/http://www.earlycj5.com/technical/electrical/

Do you have the factory manual? NOT Haynes or Chiltons, but the one the Jeep dealers would sell?

Mmm. Easier to understand? I don't know what that would be. It's a very simple diagram, as wiring diagrams go. I think you'll need to work on your diagram comprehension instead.

My advice would be to photocopy the diagram you have and blow it up to double size with the photocopier. Then get your colored pens and pencils and trace out the wires with a color as close to the coded color as possible. This is what I did as a teenager WBW. Typically these diagrams will have the colors in a code somewhere, either next to the wires or separately with a number code. For example, when it says "bk w/tr" that's black with a stripe (trace).
