I preparing to replace the timing chain on my 1971 CJ V6. I have never replaced a timing chain before. In looking for parts on Rock Auto, I have some questions that I'm hoping someone here can answer. These are the parts: timing chain cover, timing indicator, and timing set:

    http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=292257&cc=1309429

ATP Part # 103005 {#25515465} (Vehicles 1977 and older require timing indicator p/n 103014); Crankshaft Seal Included, Without Water Pump Gasket and Block Gasket
For Timing Indicator, Use ATP Part Number 103014
Part is designed for CA Market vehicles

    ATP Part # 103014 {#1258617} Timing Indicator

    http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=416995&cc=1309429

    CLOYES Part # C3003K
Timing Set, Includes Cam, Crank, Chain
Part is designed for CA Market vehicles

    Questions:

    1) The cover and the timing set indicate that they are designated for Canadian market vehicles. I spoke to Rock Auto and they couldn't give me much info other than those parts are so designated. Will these work on my Jeep?

    2) Has anyone used this timing chain cover and timing indicator combination before? Do they bolt right together, and are the timing marks true?

    3) Should I go with the standard timing set using the 2 dampers, or might it be best to go with the Edelbrock Performer-Link True Roller Set? Has anyone used it before?

I have a couple of stripped bolt holes in the timing chain cover that are used to attach the water pump. I can get by without a new cover, but I figured that as long as I have it off, I could replace it. I couldn't locate an original type part with the attached timing indicator, so I was wondering if anyone had used the set from Rock Auto, and how it worked out.

Chevalier 87, have you used the TA Performance cover? Does it have an attached timing indicator?

I would use heli-coil repairs on the stripped holes. This will provide threads as good or better than the original and is easy to do.
As long as the oil pump gear cavity isn't chewed up, keep your original cover and save the money.
