I recently went on EBay and purchased some diamond plate for the side rails, and the quality was okay. So I went with the same vendor and ordered some corner guards which were horrible; not cut to fit nor did they even come close to fitting. I've noticed many members here have custom fabricated their own body armor.

So lets see what you have. Did you buy it or build it?

The rear Corner Gaurds were put on first. (They hold up well to tree striks.) Then I made the Nurf Bars. They are made from 2X2 box tube and bolted to the frame. Then I added the Aluminum side plates for looks. Never used them as body armor.

Jeep tubs were never really precision made. The rear corners are especially vexing to fit armor on. It take a boat load of clamps to get most corner guards to fit well and even then you may have some small gaps. I ordered these from MORE Products as I recall. I special ordered them with no cutouts so I could do my own light and gas filler cutouts. They are 1/8th" steel.

For rocker guards I used 4"x4" 3/16" angle and welded a piece of 1"x1" 3/16" angle to beef up the bottom corner.

I'd like to see the "Nurf bar" build.

This might just be the smartest idea I've seen. I might even be able to handle a mod like this...Thanks for posting.

This wan't called armor in the mid 90's when I did it. At least, that's not what I called it or why I did it. At the time, I had not the skills or equipment to repair the rusted out area where the spare tire went. So, I had these corners bent and then cut the rest of the detail myself. The driver's side wasn't rusted out but, it had to look like the pass. side. I coated the back side of the aluminum panel with brush on undercoating before final installation. The entire was painted after these were on.

How is the 4x4 angle iron mounted on the backside (to the body I assume)?

Where did you get those and what did they cost? I'm liking the smooth look, its different than the diamond plate I usually see.

Sorry, I spent many weeks welding on my CJ3B , about 14 square feet of metal welded in. My brother kept saying I should just put the diamond plate on it. Nope. It looks like a stock 1961 CJ3B with a 1" lift on it. Just the way I want it.

I called MORE off road and asked about the smooth corner guards but the guy I spoke with said they don't carry them, nor do they manufacture them.

    Bummer, I guess I'll keep looking. . . .

I've been driving my 3B in CO and UT for 24 years and I can't say I'm the perfect driver. Never touched the body on a rock, OK, there was a tree involved once. One exhaust pipe got a bit mangled on a trip. It's part of the fun.

Warrior Products makes the smooth corner guards as well as a full wrap if you have a Renegade or M38A1 that doesn't have a tailgate. The full wrap saved me from probably a full gallon of bondo application! But it did require some work to fit. (Tons of clamps as mentioned as well as it had to be sectioned on both sides to be narrowed 1/2" most likely because my tub was so tweaked.)
