I've torn down this "mystery" jeep (AM General tag--essentially a '70 CJ5) and now need ideas on reassembly.

The front springs seem in good shape, but I wouldn't mind replacing those along with the rears. Question: would it make more sense to just get a small lift kit than to buy the springs ala carte? I'll end up needing shocks & brake lines anyhow. I know nothing about lift kits tho.

Also I'll need ideas on body mounts...would it just make sense to buy a body lift kit or just a bunch of hockey-pucks? Not looking for anything fancy, just want to slap this jeep together. Thanks for any ideas!

Now Alan, where are the pics?
Poly body mounts are dirt cheap.
As far as the sproids, I don't think the cost difference will be much different between a mild lift and stock replacements.......
Boy, that was a ton of help, wasn't it..:D

What I found was that kits like the 1" ranchos are often available with a set of shocks included...and that was the cost savings over just replacement springs.

Alan: Get the lift kit that includes shocks and be done with it! Poly body mounts cost less than 30 bucks for 14 of them. Don't try to get too "frugle". ;)

Great idea. Any specific recommendations for a lift kit that comes w/ shocks & extended brake lines?

And on the "Poly body mounts"? Ebay perhaps?

I've never seen any spring kit that comes with extended brake lines. I'm still running the stock ones, but have a set of Goodridge that I got off of Ebay for $29. :)

If you can find poly bushings on Ebay, fine. But they are not that expensive thru the regular suppliers.

That's for 1 spring. Not bad. I guess I'm confused as to what I should be looking for: a kit or ala carte like this spring? 40 + 40 + 2 fronts (80) + shocks ?$? + what else? I told ya I didn't know much about this stuff. Time to do some investigating. Thanks for the tips guys.

I would definently buy a kit that comes with everything (springs, shocks, U'bolts, shims) That way you dont have to piece everything together. I got mine from 4Wheel Parts and it came with all the stuff mentioned above and as best I can remeber it was around ~400 or so bucks shipped to the house.

I've been shopping for a 2.5" kit. You can get superlift from JC Whitney for around $500 (w/ shocks). I'm going with a BDS from a local supplier for $575. The guys on this forum see to really like the gaurantee and the ride.I also priced out a skyjacker system at a local supplier; with shocks it was going to be ~$700. All these kits include new U bolts and shims.

"BDS" is a manufacturer. Do a search for it on the forum search and you'll get a ton of hits. I never heard of them until I read it on this forum. I can't attest to the ride yet, but I'm sure some of the other guys here can/will.
Here's a link to their web site http://www.bds-suspension.com . Also there's a company called Espo http://www.espo.com they have replacement stuff and are pretty inexpensive, again, I don't know anything about the product, but other threads seem to indicate that they're pretty good.

BDS is up here in Michigan. Lifetime no-hassle warranty on springs. A little more monney but no regrets if your rear end starts to sag. ;)

Alan Rough Country www.roughcountry.com sells complete kits as well. 2.5" kit with shocks lists around $379.00 (last price I saw). Most kits come with a brake line bracket extention instead of longer lines.
