Yep, Chris is right. Your Jeep (or at least your frame) is a 1960 model year, built towards the end of 1959.

I think now I understand the title saying 1953. If back in the day when they used a typewriter the "9" didn't type clear around it might look like a 3. So I bet the DMV agent just assumed it was 1953. So I might have the only CJ5 listed with the DMV here in AZ at least where they think it is 1953. But it is nice to know now what stuff I need to be searching for to rebuild this thing. Thanks everyone!

I tried using the search feature above for battery tray but get apparently anything with the words battery any post. I am looking for a picture of a battery tray that is original and on the frame rail up front. I need to fab one but I don't ahve a picture or template to work from. Trying to get one as close as possible unless I can find one to buy somewhere. So far no luck. Can someone post a picture of a frame mounted battery tray for me to work from?

Thanks that will get me started. After several months dealing with real life I'm back at this build.

FYI............the upper LH corner of that tray has been cut out and I would suspect that was done due to a V6 installation in that original 4 cylinder equipped vehicle.

Photobucket is up so here are a few pics of some progress. wanted to show some of the beginners like me that even though the parts don't look like they will clean up they will with a little patience. I'm working on the drive train at the moment.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

This clutch cable was hidden under tons of dirt and grime. The wire wheel was a good friend when cleaning it up. Not it looks great. Any opinions on whether I should prime and paint it or leave it? Also got the transfer case and transmission pulled to begin working on them. That will be a new adventure.
