    boat motor stalls

    romp motor to show off

    won't restart
beach babes all watching as we drift into shore; taking on water over transom
beach babes watching as bro in-law tugs at rags now severely sucked into carb
beach babes not impressed as it takes over 1/2 hour to extract whats left of shop rags

try this one out for stupidity. I got my jeep home on day one, I was so excited to see if the motor ran I installed a carb and plugs. New plug wires, changed oil and various assortment of other things. Now the transmission was not installed but the bellhousing was, as was the throw out bearing. I had thought about it earlier in the day, but it slipped my mind in all the excitement. Well the motor started and ran great until the BIG BANG and flying metal throughout my garage.. I knew what it was as soon as I heard it. The throwout bearing fell off the clutch fork and into the pressure plate with the motor running. Well a new bellhousing a new clutch fork and a new throwout bearing later all was repaired and nobody got hurt.(approx $225. in parts) Long story short, We all do dumb things. Mine just seem to be more elaborate than most.

how about ( yes i am the one who did this)
take both wheels off bike in order to repack wheel bearings( hey a jeep word)
put wheels back on then go out for a test ride.
forget to reattach BOTH brake cables to brakes.
remember i forgot brakes as i am heading for a tree at medium-high speed.
    bike+rider meet tree.

i learned after that to always make sure i have connected the brake cables before going for a ride.

edit: dad reminded me of my dumbest move of my short life at this point

take model rocket motor, put fins directly onto motor with rubber cement
place "rocket" onto cinderblock, set off with a normal rocket lighting setup
rocket comes off stand sideways and aims right at me, of course hitting my leg.
blows 1" hole in leg, march in band that night

    Stupid is....

Flat towing the Jeep behind old Ford 1/2 ton moving from Kalamazoo to Holland.

    Truck (tired I6) overheats.

Schmart driver empties radiator from Jeep and puts it into truck.

Completes the move. Pats himself on the back for being so schmart....

Until the next time he drives the Jeep and it overheats....

How about setting the line lock (fake parking brake) so you can jump out of the Jeep to drop the tow bar onto the trailer hitch of the pickup.

Then forgetting to jump back into the Jeep to release the line lock.

About 60 miles down the road. What's that smell of burnt brake shoe lining?

John, I just packed the front wheel bearings on the Jeep Sunday. I've only done this proceedure 5 or 6 times and consider myself a beginner. It gets easier each time. Had to do it once beside the road as everything got a bit rusty from driving though creeks while caribou hunting.

Maybe Sparky can restart this thread and let us post anonymously?
I had a 67 Camaro with a rare GM aluminum winters snowflake intake manifold.
One day I noticed it was leaking oil from the rear intake seal, so I yanked the distributor, unhooked the fuel line and laid a newspaper in the rocker valley to catch the gasket scrapings.
Put a new seal on and fired it up. Yep, you guessed it.
I thought "some-ting wong here" when I heard the lifters clacking, then realized the sports page was still in there.
Luckily, it hadnt turned to mush yet. Yep, good advice, but several sets of seals.

    Its all a learning process.

I was looking to replace the wheels and tires off my WWll jeep so I could inspect the rare rims and make sure I had one good set plus 1, just in case. The tires on these rims are really good so I want to save them. I make this convoluted trade for some 4 more rims which have tires. I drive up to visit a buddy who has a tire machine and take the wheels off. Could have done it near me for what I spent in gas and time but it was good to visit. All is well. I come home and think, you moron. The trade I made was for 15" rims, originally for another project. The wheels and tires on my MB are 16".
I could have used the 15" rims and tires to hold up my MB but I took the tires off and threw out the inner tubes. I now have 4 15" rims that are in ok shape. It will cost me to throw the tires out as they are really not worth keeping. Stock fair 15" rims w/o tires have the value of a weeks worth of turds from a big dog that you scrapped off your lawn.
How stupid can I get. What was I thinking.

I've been following your brake job thread the last couple of days as I'm installing 11" brakes on the front. I know I would have made many of the mistakes you unfortunatley have made if I hadn't been following you. I had the swegged drums like you and my parts house said they were no problem- they could just press them off. Thanks to you I was weary and took them home & ground off the stud around the 9" drum to seperate the hub. I then cut the old studs off flush with the hub and am going to back to have new studs put in today.
I'm sorry you've had so much trouble but thank you so much for posting and saving me and probably others a lot of trouble in the future. Just remember, after this is done and your wheeling somewhere this will just be a story to tell while having a brew in great spot that your jeep got you to. Good Luck.

Unrelated I know, but did you know if you take a Bobcat skid-loader with a full bucket and drive it up the steepest incline it will go up with the bucket as high as you can get it, the bucket will empty on your head??  :) R)
