Parking Brake Parts

Hello all. In the process of restoring my '55 and need assistance in identifying the manufacturer and locating parts for my parking brake assembly. See pictures. The part I have been unable to locate is the clip that is used to hold the handle in position when the brake is applied. Any help or suggestions? Originally I used a jigsaw blade and safety wire, which works, just like to go with an original part if I can

 

Not sure what exactly you are looking for - I do not have an example to look at. I believe would call this a pawl - the bar that drops into the notches on the handle.

It seems very unlikely there would be reproductions of the component parts of the parking brake handle. It was probably sold by Jeep as a complete replacement unit. Is there a reproduction of the whole parking brake handle assembly available? Seems unlikely it would be, especially if it is specific to the earliest CJ-5s. It may have parts in common with the flat fender Jeeps, especially the CJ-3B, which overlaps in time with the earliest CJ-5s. If not, you will need to either fabricate a part, or see if you can find a parts donor.

I recall that Herm www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com sells parts for the parking brake on the transfer case. He may have something for you, or have an idea for where you can get what you need.

timgr and chris423, thanks for the responses. I was hoping to be able to procure the part but as you stated, timgr, more than likely will have to fabricate the piece. I will do some more research on the CJ-3B. Chris423, I have checked Walck's and they sell clips for a different cane handle set-up than mine. The parking brake portion on the transfer case is complete, just missing the pawl.

I just read your tag line. Wow SN 378. Glad to see one of the firsts still around.

 

Received the Pawl Kit on Saturday. Installed it today and it fit perfectly. The hand brake now functions the way it did when it was first installed on the Jeep.

 

Heck, it was likely a commodity part when it was first used. Pretty remarkable that the Corvette and the CJ share this part. Cool!

 

Timgr, When you stated that CJ-3Bs more than likely had cross over parts it got me to thinking about other vehicles 0f the '50s and '60s. I took a chance and searched the web and came across the pawl kit. Thanks for the information. I have found the information possessed by the members of this site to be invaluable.
