Man I just remembered that when I put the new u-joints in I didn't put any grease in them.

I've driven about 10 miles so far with no grease...how much trouble am I in? Should I add this to the "stupidity" thread?

FWIW there was already grease in the cups where the bearings are...I know because of course I had to remove them to install the u-joints.

you're fine for a lot more than 10 miles. but it wouldnt hurt to add more grease to them. add just enough so that a little bit squeezes out of the cups.

New u-joint designs probably don't require any additional grease, period. In fact, you shouldn't **** with the grease in any way. I had some major problems a few years ago (there is a thread here somewhere) where I decided to add grease to the u-joint cups and was unable to put the *&^%ing things back together. Turns out they come prelubed and anything you do to them just makes 'em worse. Read your assembly instructions carefully.

Are we talking about greasable or non greasable? if they're greasable, then they need additional grease added in most cases. I don't think you could do any damage in 10 miles though. Just add grease now that you realize the error and you'll be fine.

If it has a zerk fitting, you'll be OK topping it off with grease. That is, provided that the U-joint is installed in the vehicle. All 4 caps. If it isn't, the caps will pop off when you pump the grease gun and you'll play he** getting the caps back on to install it.

Be a nice guy and don't ask how I learned that one, K?

    Actually John, R).

No you shouldn't have hurt anything.
I've had to replace ujoints on the side of the road and then drive the car home more than once.
Stupid things pop once in awhile street racing. :D

Thanks...I didn't even wait for this response...I went straight to our shop and greased them all. There are zerk fittings on them.
