I'd like to rebuild my parking brake for my jeep. Is there anyway to dissemble the unit? Mine is a "T" style handle. There is a metal stud that prevents it from coming apart. Is that removable?

Also, I picked up an extra brake assemble but it looks different. It has a bracket welded at the end like this one below. It doesn't fit in my application (63 CJ6). What is it for?

Mine looks like this one below with no bracket:

The metal pin at the end is pressed in and you can remove it. Can you post close up pictures of the pin? Your design is different than what is on my 55. The bracket at the end is used to mount that end to the firewall. Hope this helps.

Focker, You are probably correct on the drilling. That is why I asked for a picture of the pin. The pin on mine, located at the rear, is there to prevent the handle being pulled out of the housing. I'm going on the premise that his is assembled the same way. I took mine out with a pair of channel locks, penetrating silicone lube and slight wrenching back and forth. After cleaning the handle and housing up, I reassembled and tapped the pin back in place. My pin is tapered. I really wish I would have taken pictures of the restoration process of my hand brake assembly.

Pull it and do it again! :)

Mine in sorta counter sunk...Looks like I'd have to drill, but pulling would be preferred for reassembly. If drilled out it may have to be reinstalled using a roll pin or set screw?

Mine has no emergency brake components at all anywhere. Is that common for folks to run without any E brake? Or is it worth sourcing all the parts to add?

The cj5 I'm currently working on had nothing but the backing plate and drum on the transfer case (both unserviceable). I personally couldn't imagine having a stick shift car without the parking brake so I have acquired all the parts to put it back in place. With some used parts off eBay and a rebuilt brake assembly from Herm and including the core charge, I'm at about $200.
