I investigated my leaky rear main today.
Normally everything is glossy and oil doesn't show.
The current coating of mud helped show the trail.
Looks like the aftermarket mechanical oil pressure guage is coming out or the valve covers need love.

Spent a couple hours and washed off after last weekend's trip. I looked around and didn't see anything out of place beside some scratches and dents. I went back and looked at my photos. One year ago this week I had pulled the axles out from under the donor 74 CJ5. Glad to be enjoying the fruit of my labor.

It's fine when the potholes are filled with snow but now it's pothole season you gotta slow down. Soon it will be roadwork season and you gotta watch out for those guys.
Once it is winter again you can run 70. If you need to run around the state stop by the hearth shop in Dansville (the old agway) and get a picture with the owners. Tell them Waddle sent you.

    Good news and Bad news.

well mostly bad. I had a bad oil leak from timing cover after I put it all back together after head gasket repair.

I had to take it all back off. and I didn’t really find what was leaking

Definitely put some dabs of sealer where you had to cut the pan gasket to replace the front cover. Really you're better off pulling the pan and putting it back on with a full gasket *after* the front cover is on. It's so easy to pull the pan there's really no reason not to.

Since I'm moving the gas tank to the rear with a later 15 gallon tank I decided to remove the filler parts and fill the side of the body.
Of course, I ran out of welding wire before I was able to weld the patch panel in. I plan on relocating the original metal flange to the right back corner and re-use it.

I skipped out of work this morning to get the timing cover back on.

If it leaks this time I’m going for a different engine.

    No F'n way.

The first time I did this cover (2years ago) it worked perfect. I must have just missed cleaning something this time.

Or used the wrong gasket. The gasket sets usually have gaskets for the 215, 225, 231 300, 340, 350 and some Land Rovers. Some have different shaped and size oil holes.
