My rear end spiders lost a couple of chunks out of them this weekend. I am trying to decide whether to weld them up solid or change to Lockright. I have got full floating kit in with locking hubs. Can I just run one side locked and the other unlocked? This should delete any tire wear problems/chirping/etc. from tires Right?? What do you guys think Yeah or Nay?? This is in a 19 Spline Dana 44 V6 powered GPW T90 transmission. Just used for hunting and a sunday drive, no hard core wheelin.

    well..........
I say fix it........and fix it right
doesn't matter what kind of use it gets
broken teeth caught in ring and pinion is not a pretty sight (highway speeds!)
you will do more damage by driving it
    that's my opinion

I will recommend the lockrite. The welded spiders will work but it is rough to drive on the streets like that especially when wet. Just replace the spiders with the lockrite and have a great axle.

At risk of being dissmissed as a crank, your question goes to the intended use of your jeep, if you are offroad then lock it, snow and ice wet and slippery, then get some spiders. Lockrites DEtroit Lockers or whatever, will put a jeep in the ditch fanny first.
Torque and compression both can cause a loss of traction in low friction road environments. Even an auto transmission can compression lock and cause a skid on deceleration. Ever see all the Go Fast cars in the ditch, trunk first, TransAm, Camero, even the occaisional 4Runner when the roads covered in snow? My jeep always went well and behaved itself. Never was offroad much. When it is slippery having one wheel spinning and one tracking was mighty handy.
My experience comes from driving a slightly modified DJ5 while on a Ski Patrol.
(4x4 DJ5 powered by 283 chev with auto trany/tnsfr from Chev 4x4 PU.
To those of you wondering yes the rear drive line was SHORT. Splined output Female yoke was mated to Splined Male yoke. About 10 inches. Not the best length when offroad, it tended to bind.)
Currently working on Barny the Barn fresh 67 CJ5. In STL looking for 225v6

spend the $$$$ on the arb locker or a limited slip. not a fan of "lincoln" lockers.

IIRC and this is something i learned here. with a full floater a lockright does not work well because the axle shaft moves back and forth( since there is no solid connection) hmm 19 spine rear end. nope no arb for that ( that i have heard of)

I have a lock rite in mine and it worked well, the only real drawback was some handling quirks cuz it pushes the outside the outside wheel instead of the inside like an open. Easy enough, don't drive like a moron. I have had a z-28 (2 actually a 95 and 96) and a miata as well as my locker in the cj and a tight limited slip in the XJ and none of them have ever been in a ditch butt first... The thing under your right foot is a throttle.. not an on/off switch.. so driving like a sane human and having a locker/limited slip on the street is ok...

My Lockrite and FF kit works really good :) Only thing stinky bout the FF kit is that if you do not have them rear locking hubs locked with the set screw, they will unlock on you, and you will think you did somethingbad because you wont move :(

Also you shouldn't unlock one side of your axle if you get a locker. The jeep will tend to steer to one side or the other depending on if your foot is on or off the gas. Its kinda odd. I've done it by accident a few times. In my opinion having a locker in the rear doesn't wear tires out any faster than hard corning wears out the fronts.

Try an Aussie locker, there cheaper and seem to be just as good as lockrite.

I would not recommend a lincoln locker in the rear. Not a big deal in the front axle, because you can unlock it on the pavement, But not on the rear
