The M38A1 originally had two batteries located just beneath the cowl. Does anyone know the original size of those batteries?

Also, Anyone who has an A1, what batteries do you run? I have a red top Optima that is too big for the original battery box. I was thinking it would be nice to have the capacity of two 12V batteries but I don't think it's really needed right now. It would be cool though. I've toyed with removing the box and mounting a single battery behind the dash using the battery bracket from my CJ. This would give me more room to mount my ECM and maybe even a heater.

    Ideas???

Mruta, on my 53 I have 2 group 51 in the battery box. Only 425 CCA each. On my 62 I have my battery monted down on the frame where part of the 24 volt gen system mounted, works well there. Had to do his because po took battery box out and welded cover shut  But this works pretty well because I can mount a large 1150 cca? that goes on a cummings diesel Dodge. Don't know what engine you have but this works pretty well for the origional F4. Probably use Cj5 firewall mount if your using a V motor and use the box for storage or your ecm.

Thanks for the input JD. I was thinking that if I could keep the battery or batteries inside the Jeep, it would free up some room under the hood for extra parts and/or storage. I'll have to think about this a little more.
