Stock type rims with less backspacing?

Yeah yeah yeah, I'm beating this to death, but I gotta know that I'm doing it right the first time. Don't want a bunch of rims/tires collecting dust 'cuz I picked the wrong ones.

    Here's the breakdown....
    Current=stock 15x5? rims with 29x7 tires.
What I want=BFG MT 30x9.5 on stock or stock-like rims.

    Here's the problem....
I already have tire rub with the stockers, and the new tires on the stock rims would be approx. 1.25" CLOSER to rubbing right off the bat. I'm really not happy with that situation, and would really not like to "just live with it". I could "live" with the bit of rubbing I have now, but not more. Some SWAG research shows that I should still be clear of the outer fenders, and even then, I don't enough travel to contact them, even fully articulated.

    Here's my solution(s)...
Find a stock 15x5 rim with 2.5" backspacing instead of the stock 3.75".
    OR
Go with a 1.25" spacer. (A quality one, of course)

    Any Help?
And thanks for putting up with this same "tire"some topic.....

Are you still rubbing with the new leaf springs?

Haven't been out to explore that, but I'm willing to bet I'll still get rub, just lower on the inner fender wells. The springs only put the Jeep up a bit, not spread the tires out further.

Just keep in mind Thad that tires that rub in the fenderwell usually don't cause any damage to the Jeep; Tires that rub on the outer fender often do major sheetmetal damage.

IMHO, I'd leave things just as they are. YMMV. ;)

Inner fender wells on the rear? Whose Jeep does not do that?

There isn't any difference geometrically between wheel spacers and backspacing, except for some additional leverage on the lug studs. Wheel spacers are certainly cheaper than new wheels.

    No, stock 10" drums...

That depends on the wheel. I think my spacers were $80- $90 a piece....

I know, but mine does it already with the stock type set up. :( I'm only trying to keep it from being worse with new tires, not eliminate it completely. I'm fully aware that I need to be wary of the outer sheetmetal, and it appears that I have the room to work with this.

I only get a small amount of rub, on the outside rear bottom corner of the rear fender , with 32x11.50's on 8.5 inch wheels, 1 1/2" wheel spacers, and 2.5" springs.....YMMV......

Thad, fwiw i had 16x8 w/2.5" backspaceing running 9.00x35 ndt's didn't rub w/ 3"lift and shackles on front. Did rub though w/10x15w3.5" backspacing and 12.50x35's. The 2.5 backspaced wheels don't comepletely tuck under but do better than the 10x15 did but I have flares and they work ok. Now have 285s on now because I have that size on my truck and I can just use those take offs. With those have no "rubbage", hope this helps. ;)
