    Don't feel bad. It's a good one.
I'm sure I've told a few stories twice.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Especially when considering there is always a new crowd that hasn't heard it before. :)

I had my 1985 Jeep cj7 starter stay enagaged after the the jeep started. It was making a horrible grinding noise as you can imagine. I jumped out of the driver seat opened the hood and disconnected battery. Thankfully the negative terminal wasn’t super tight and I could rip it off without having to get tools. Needless to say that ring gear was toasted and I eventually had to replace it. I drove the jeep with no starter for a while parking strategically so I could push start the jeep. I got a lot of looks push starting that jeep, oh to be young again.

To this day I keep my terminals tight but loose enough to pull off in case because of this. Seems like a bad idea but that’s what I do.

That's where a disconnect switch would come in handy. ;)

When I was little, there was a point in time when my parents were sinking every penny they'd make into building their house. We had one vehicle, a 70's Chevy pickup. The starter was dead in that thing for like a year. I remember my mom dreading going to PTA meetings at my school because it was the one place we'd go where the parking lot was completely flat.
