Wow, I'm in awe of that bathroom transformation! Parents had a couple different camping trailers growing up and they all suffered from being small camper bathrooms. I'm not big nor tall and thought they were small, what you've done looks awesome and actually usable!

Nope, the kitchen sink is one step out the bathroom door; it seemed redundant and a waste of space. I re-plumbed the toilet sprayer into the cold water line and capped off the hot. Before, the sprayer would only spray when your foot was on the flush pedal.

One more thing I forgot to mention…
The wall by the bed had severe water damage.

This was from the low spot on the roof’s perimeter being right over this window. When it would rain, the water would pool on the roof, run down over the window, fill the trough where the window slides, then leak inside down the wall.

I used some industrial, highly toxic roof sealant stuff from work to build up a ridge along the roof’s side higher than the rear lip, so now the water dumps out the back.

    Wall repair looked like this…
The old one came out in a lot of pieces.

I made a template of the opening with 1/8” MDF and hot glue

Cut the new piece out of 1/4” birch plywood. It’ll get painted when we get around to painting the bedroom. We have plans for that….

I have found that most damage in walls of RVs is from the window sealant failure, the windows come out easily and I clean the surfaces up and use butyl caulk, many manufacturers just use foam tape and it gets hard and water gets in….you have done an outstanding job restoring yours

    Thanks!

Yeah, that’s on the “summer” list. All the windows need a re-seal.

The doghouse has just been a catch-all storage area that I’ve been afraid to look too closely at because I’m pretty sure the front window is leaking. The best part about this thing is that it’s aluminum-framed with a fiberglass exterior, so the only real rot that can happen is the interior plywood. Still not fun to fix, but better than a complete tear down and rebuild.

Most motorhomes die because the house falls apart, running gear rarely gives up.You are giving that a much longer life, and they are cheap to buy a few years old….we finally got an Airstream, wish I had done this 20 years ago, great quality and tow like a dream….this is the last rv for us….age is getting the better of us….

I've been thinking of getting a used diesel class A as we are nearing retirement. Wish they had more sleeping area like our 1987 class C we are using! Adult kids still like going with us.

I finally got around to making a spacer for behind/around the microwave to keep it in place. Not much to see, but it’s been a major pain.

I got an old mirror that happened to be the perfect size for the bathroom. Next to it in the corner, I came up with these cute little corner shelves. I had a small scrap of cutting board material left over, so I carefully routed thin strips of end grain out of it for the front edge of the shelves. They got glued onto 1/2” plywood, then 1/4” plywood was used for mounting strips underneath.

Good luck, they're still out there, but the cheap ones will be gut jobs. We're hoping to get into an airstream in the next few years too. I like the idea of being able to drop the trailer off at a campground without having to haul a toad.... although the jeep WOULD be fun to zip around in :)

My suggestion on a diesel is a super c with a Freightliner cab and chassis, there are millions of frieghtliners on the road so parts and service is easy, ask a truck mechanic what they prefer to work on,tip up hood or crawl in to get at stuff, some are on International chassis too.We talked to a couple on this trip with a class A that had someone cut in front to quick a year ago and she had nothing under her feet by the time her husband got things to a stop. There is a lot to be said for that old saying “the first one to the wreck”,I like a motor out on front….and make sure it’s air brakes and not air over hydraulic….and it’s no big deal to drag a toad…until you get in a wrong place and have to back up

I'd prefer a super C, but they seem to be much more expensive. I also kind of like moving the engine noise away from the driving position.

I don’t know if this is realistic or not, but a long-term goal of mine is to start with a newer school bus drivetrain and chassis, drop an old classic truck cab on it, and use my house to complete the package. Sorta like this:
