Hi All, Please point me in the right direction for info. After a week’s worth of looking online, I can’t find what vehicles my manual box would have originally fit. I have a Saginaw 5679142 that is 6.25 turns from lock to lock with 36 splines on the input. The pitman arm looks like a GM part number 5679206 (maybe that helps?). I can’t seem to find a 36 spline long input shaft manual box that isn’t fast ratio. Are intermediate manual boxes 36 spline inputs?

Unfortunately the sector shaft on the existing box is twisted. There is likely more damage inside, so rebuilding this one isn’t my first choice. The steering mount setup won’t allow for a PS box to fit, and I don’t care to spend another $80-$90 to replace the 36 spline Borgeson u-joint with a 30 spline if I don’t have to. If anyone knows or understands the date codes, I could post pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

You might look at Chevrolets around 1959-60 that used manual steering gear. Try Biscayne or Impala. They used a 36 spline input shaft although I don't know if they are consider to be long input shaft.

I have a manual box from an 86 CJ7 and a borgeson joint that fits it. You are welcome to see if they would work for you. The only pitman arm I have for it is a dropped arm.

I was able to confirm the CJ7 box I have is 36 splines on the input shaft that is about 3/4 inch diameter by 3 3/4 inches in length. I can rotate it almost 6 1/2 turns lock to lock.
