what i have is a trans dapt adapter that is discontinued. states its only for a true t90 trans. i have a t90 a-1.
with this adapter it seems to require no bearing retainer which in return leaves three open holes. can anyone tell me if the t90 doesnt have bearing retainer holes and if this is the difference between the two?. i had this setup working but it was leaking a bit of oil on the ground. i have a thought tjhis could be why. what to do ? i could just silicone the holes shut or maybe buy some fitting set screws. or maybe bolts from the inside will work with lock tight. the bearing seem as to fit nicely into the adapter all but the snap ring does not let it fit as nice as it could. im wondering if this also is a difference between the two transfer cases? essentially the trans is bolted to the adapter plate. i couldn't find original instructions online for the trans dapt part number 7200026. just that it was discontinued. i just took out to put in a spare t90 i built as the current lost third gear brass ring cracked. the adapter has the oil return groove in it also but i worry the additional three open holes will overwhelm this passage causing leakage. i put this together as is now,i scrounged parts for awhile. but inexperience has lead me to just now asking this question. i feel maybe that ring cracking was a result of this

Hard to picture but if your bellhousing has the bearing retainer it would be like this combo?

I don't believe the open holes and oil would have caused the 3rd gear synchro to break. Is there any water in the oil?

no water in the oil i just thought the extra holes could have starved it for oil as it was discolored like it got hot. i have an all new completely rebbuilt t90 on the jack haslf way in and i dont want this to happen again even though i did the rebuild on this one it wasnt cheap. i put set screws in the retainer holes with lock tight

the rectangle part of adapter looks like mine but it is not part of a larger round piece. i thought maybe my gear was starved for oil as it was discolored like it got hot. no water in the oil. the trans was all used parts i scavenged from three t90s so it could have already been compromised.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I just hauled home a disassembled 66 or 67 CJ5 with the Dauntless V6.
This Jeep was a standard originally as it has a T-90 A1 and does not have the bigger drum brakes. I have known the history on this Jeep going back 30 or more years and the conversion was not done by my cousin I bought it from, so was a fairly early conversion.

I expected it to have an adaptor but it does not. It appears to have a standard BOP bell housing, and the longer input shaft from the Willys trucks and wagons. I ran into this same setup on a M38 I had years ago.

I like the T-90 transmission better than the T-86 used in some of the V6 Jeeps so I am going to put it back together with that set up if the machine shop doesn't find any issues with the engine block.
