I just finished rebuilding and replacing my brake lines, master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake shoes..... on a '69 CJ5 , 10" drums................ but I found out as I was doing my last wheel that the self adjusting parts (lever plate, upper linkage rod, screw, lower linkage rod, and adjuster lever are all missing on this last wheel. It only has the adjusting screw.
does anybody have one or more of theses 10" self adjusting setups.... for sale ....????? this is the front drivers side wheel. Anyone know is some company sells adjuster parts..?

I have searched long and hard, but in vain for those 10" adjuster parts. I believe these brakes were Wagner design.

I considered modifying the backing plates to use the Bendix design adjusters, but finally just gave up and installed 11" brakes on all four corners.

I was hoping that someone who was changing from 10" to 11" brakes or to Disc brakes would have some parts off their old 10" brakes......... Anybody...?????

I went through hell and back trying to piece together a set of four. It was NOT easy and took a zillion phone calls and I eventually did. Worse yet is the availability of 11" backing plates for conversion kits.

Anyhow, some of the parts you're looking for are different between left and right sides...

You could try posting in the WTB section here. There are also Jeep junkyards like J&W in Antelope CA, likely something more nearby in NM. I expect these parts get snapped up quickly by those that still have the 10" brakes.

Yes the 11" backing plates are scarce but at least there are several vehicles which used them that will fit a Jeep. I have used them from Ford Bronco, IH Scout II, and DJ5 Postal Jeeps.

Those 10" brakes were not nearly as widely used, and the only hardware I could find were the springs, retainers, and adjuster screws. I could not find the adjuster rods, and levers.

So, I have two 10" backing plates (need cleaned up), two new drums and the shoes that I won't be using. If anyone wants these send me a PM.

Back in the olden days when I worked parts counter, you could buy a kit to convert from automatic adjusters to manual. It was mostly a coil spring that went from shoe to shoe over the top of the star wheel and held the adjuster unless you moved it with some prying tool. Possible there are other brakes with manual adjusters that you could get these parts from, and similarly convert?

Thanks timgr...... All four wheels of my brakes have a 3" coil spring that lays against the star wheel adjuster and holds the bottom of both shoes tight against the adjuster, and also holds the star wheel from rotating.... so it sounds like I already have the manual adjuster set up..... what I wanted is the clip that slips under one of the brake shoes and rubs against the star wheel on the adjuster.... I have three of those... but missing the front drivers side....

Considered using these I have without the adjusters, but then came upon a stash of enough 11" backing plates to do three Jeeps, so that is what I am going with.

One of my CJ2As has a set of M38A1 axles, the rear being surplus Marine with the limited slip differential. The other CJ2A still has the open Diff Dana 41. On that one I plan to split the cable activated e-brakes brakes to two floor levers, it is what we used to call a "Poor Man's Locker". May do that on the CJ5 as well.

I think the 10" brakes would work fine without the adjusters if there was a spring across there to hold the wheel in place so they didn't back off. Might be an option while the search for the adjuster parts continues. You could adjust them as needed with a brake spoon, which would be a lot easier than adjusting the four eccentrics on CJ2A brakes, or even the two on the early CJ5 brakes.

My '64 Tuxedo Park has Wagner 10" brakes before self adjusters were used. It just has the starwheel setup. A few years later than mine, they retrofit the self adjusters you have. They were not very effective. Many Jeeps from this era had the self adjuster removed and thrown away. Yes, they were that bad.
I understand you want to find elusive parts, but your brakes will work fine without the extra hardware. Unless your putting 20,000 miles a year on your vehicle, I'd just click the starwheel a notch or two every 6- 8 months.

Thanks Donny...... I have already removed the self adjusting parts off of the three wheels that had them.... but I left the clips that slip under one of the brake shoes and rubs against the star wheel on the adjusters......then the small spring that holds the bottom ends of the shoes tight against the adjuster....... I am missing one of these clips that puts tension against the star wheel..... that wheel with the missing clip is the front drivers side... it only has the spring rubbing against the star wheel...... I am NOT trying to set up self adjusters on it.... I prefer manual... but I would like that fourth clip for the fourth wheel....

While having never done it, I'm hard pressed to see why a set of Ford 10" adjusters wouldn't work. You would have to insure the upper cable pivot hole was right, but other than that everything should fit.
You would need the self adjuster kit, spring kit, and a set of early Ford 10" shoes for comparison. The entire cost should set you back 50 bucks or so and you would get a refund on the shoes.
