    Hi Jeepers,

What's the final word on fan shrouds on F134 CJ-5 or 6. Shroud or no shroud? On pictures of engine bays about 50% is equipped with it. I have a Part# 941547, but according to some records it is for the V6.

    Thanks Glenn,

I am a believer too, I just do not know if they were fitted originally in the factory or not.

There is an original shroud for a CJ5 with the F-head but I don't know if it was standard or optional.

Thanks Glenn, I was hoping for a part number. The one I have is: 941547, but I think it is for a V6.

Sorry, I don't have a parts book. Are you saying you have a shroud or the part number for one? Do you have a picture?

I do not have a shroud. I have a 66 CJ-5 and a 66 CJ-6 in the shop both with 2.2l or 134 CID and neither has a shroud. But hot weather is coming, cooling syst. should be in top shape and that includes the shroud. Not too many Hurricane engines has a shroud.

Thanks guys, The verdict is, there was no shroud fitted originally, so I will stop looking for one.

Both of my 64 F 134's have a shroud's, and I believe my 66 V 6 had a shroud too, I will have to go look at it to be sure. I believe in shrouds too. The grill is designed to force air through the radiator, but the shroud helps the fan pull air through the radiator too. Where I live it does not get real hot so it don't matter here. Good Luck.

My 47 has a shroud, as did all the flat fender Jeeps I have ever owned.

Neither of the two 67 CJ5s I have owned had shrouds.

The 67 I have now still had a paper tag wired to the overflow tube on the radiator telling me it was filled with "Permanent Antifreeze", so bone stock unmolested, and there isn't any provision for a shroud.

I assume you mean yours didn't have one originally?

Does your '67 have an F-head?

My 56/57 f-head has an original OEM shroud. Not listed as an option on the dealer sales invoice.

All my jeeps have had shrouds. Part of their "universal" utility.

I wonder if they started making them optional when the chance of them being used in working situations such as plowing became less and less?

I know that a shroud was original at least up into the ‘66 model year with both the F134 and V6.
Lots of shrouds got left off because replacement radiators didn’t fit like the originals. I remember, probably around 1970, my dad bought a “new” radiator for the Tux, but it didn’t fit the same as original. He ended up having the original radiator re-cored so the shroud would fit.

Something like that makes sense to me. Part of the long slide from combat vehicle to mall-crawler.

I’ve had a couple cj5s with shrouds. Even had a 71 v6 Jeep with remnants of the original shroud.
