F134 Coolant Bypass Connection, Replace?

ran the crank case hard line tonight, and got a new waterpump and thermostat on there.

I got to thinking that I'd rather make hard lines for the inlet and outlet of the oil canister, rather than replace the soft lines with new soft lines. I have plenty of hard line material.

Any reason they shouldn't be hard lines?

Vibration? Harmonics? Generally some flex is better so it absorbs any vibration.

The people at Willys must have thought so.

It has a springy thingy in it pushing a little bit on the little ball so it only opens when theres a big suck.

Again, I don't think the action is quite so simple. I believe it allows some venting at conditions. Dismantling mine it seemed to have a center position at rest, not a simple "normal closed."

the vacuum tubes are hard line, as is the fuel lines, so I was just figuring the oil lines could be too? I usually put soft lines inbetween a hardline that is on the frame going to the engine but these oil lines are going from the engine to the engine

I cleaned my valve out in an ultrasonic cleaner, couldn't figure out how to take it apart, but there appears to be no moving parts, and a very small hole through the center

Engine vibrations, any tiny expansion/contraction from heating or cooling of oil could eventually lead to any oil line cracking.

    This.

They will come apart. And there are moving parts.

But you need to be very careful to note and maintain the order and orientation of the internal parts.

ok, I'll order a soft line then :)

Is the hard line on the vacuum/pvc setup factory? or was that made hard line because it doesn't matter as much if it cracks?

The PCV line is factory. The way it is setup and the small size won't really cause cracking.

is it because the oil canister is hanging off of a bracket, and might have some movement/flex to it? Just trying to figure out why one is hard line and the other is soft :)

I was hoping you would catch that. (y) Yes, it is because it's hanging off of the bracket.

Even the slightest bit of movement over and over again will generally result in a fracture and failure.

Sir: I stand by my detailed technical analysis.

Well, I stand by my ignorance. So there.

A PCV actually reduces flow when 'full open.' So it is not quite a simple check valve.

it seems pretty solid to me when I give it a shake, but I guess if there was a soft line there from the factory, might as well replace it with a softline.

I've had the entire filter bracket fatigue and crack....

I guess Ive been lucky, or my habit of checking nuts and bolts has paid off, lol! I've never had any brackets, bolts, hard lines or anything else crack and break on me, except for when trying to remove old bolt.
