Possibly depends on the altitude of your location? Boiling point is reduced at high altitude, higher pressure cap would counter that. Regions/conditions with high ambient temperatures also would perhaps need higher coolant temperature tolerance.

I'd guess the low pressure cap will work unless you have overheating/boiling issues. And be less stressful on hoses etc.

Here's an original radiator in my '68 before I replaced it. You can see the side bracket still soldered to the tank:

Same setup in my '69 (with the later wider radiator):

I see the resemblance from the pictures but mine still looks odd in comparison. I have a big space along the side and top of the radiator where the bracket fastens to the core. I dont see that in these other pics, it looks like the radiator is mounted flush to the core support.

At this point I will assume the radiator itself is a replacement that doesn't quite fit while the brackets themselves are original. It's clear they were removed from an original type radiator. I should have been more clear earlier about what I was thinking.

And yes the radiator definitely needs to be mounted forward more.

Would it be stretch to assume the brackets are not correct? Meaning that they control the position of the radiator in relation to the core?

If you mean correct for the core you have that's what I see, it appears they're not.

You would probably have to talk to a radiator shop about that.
