Anyone Ever Used A Reproduction Speedo With Original Speedo Face

Definitely gone up about $125 since I bought it last year.

I am interested to hear what Paul’s thoughts are now that we have thrown several options out there. If you opt for rebuilding the original speedo, please keep posting because I would love to see it.

 

I have a similar question- I acquired a couple of speedometer heads and plan to swap the face and needle on my original for one in better shape- what are my options for re using or replacing the faceplate rivets? Also any suggestion on what to use to repaint the needle?

 

As stated above, the old face doesn't line up with the odometer read out. Also the omix ada speedometer faces are screwed down in the center right behind the needle vs the old style that is riveted outboard an inch or so on either side of the needle. I actually just attempted this last week. Also unfortunately the internals are off just enough it would be hard to mix and match pieces to make it work.

 

I wonder if a vinyl wrap shop could make a vintage cover for a modern speedo?

 

My instrument group is much easier.
Though the speedo has a calibration mode where once you drive a measured mile it takes into account the tire diameter and rear axle ratio for accurate MPH.
Changed out the HB lamp and two bolt holes for blue high beam, green arrows for left or right turn, all LED indicators.

if you put any power to those gauges without a good ground
you'll see the magic smoke . not good
