How Were Military Tops Done

    By looking at pictures, it looks like the true military tops of WWII were made with the rear not removable, but the sides were. Were these sides that came off the main one like the modern Beechwood ones or was the whole top changed in the winter? If they had panels that came off, how did they attach, zipper or what?

    Panels with turn-button fasteners, sandwiched in a double layer of canvas along the edge of the roof, at least on my 1952 M38A1. The rear is unitary and not removable, but (unofficially) can be rolled up.

    Not certain if WWII tops were the same.

    Sorry - I bought the "summer" top which lacks those details. I saw them on the rotted out old one.
