Who here has a factory Perkins 4.192? I have a lead on a complete 4.203 for a good price, I would like to have it for a future project, unsure how to address engine to transmission adapter, gearing and engine mounts. I know a version of the 4.203 was used in some South American vehicles, and a Spanish VIASA CJ3 variant.

I found one video on YouTube of a guy that purchased a CJ5 in Idaho a few years back that turned out to have a 4.203, messaged him on Facebook to see what he can provide.

In 1967 we inherited a 1927 Rolls Royce with a Perkins P 6 in it from my Grandmother, my Grandfather had passed. It was a car his friend brought from England, and he sold it to my Grandfather. I had seen the car right after he bought it in 1961 in pictures, and we saw it in 67 when we got married. It was a hack job, but it worked out well. I drove it from Tennessee to Detroit no problems, the motor was from a truck in England. Perkins is a great diesel motor from England, and you can find parts for them by looking around on the internet. I would love to have a CJ5 with a diesel engine in it.[IMG]

I found a VIASA owners Facebook group in Spain, one member is to get me more detailed photos of the factory 4.203 install. Poking around I see an SAE 5 adapter is most likely what the engine will use and I will need to cut a T-90 bell housing and weld to adapter, sort output shaft to input.

I have a 1966 CJ-6 with an original 4.192 Perkins. I bought it partially disassembled and have not been able to do much work on it yet.

Not sure how I missed this thread before. I have a 4.203 from a Massey Ferguson wheel loader that looked like it should work to replace the overheated 4.192 from my CJ-6. Once I got around to really looking at things, it became apparent that I would need to modify the frame mounts in the Jeep to make that 4.203 work because it lacked the bosses in the engine block that the jeep mounts use. I have seen some 4.203 engines with the bosses and mounts, but I don't know what the rhyme or reason was as the blocks look the same every where else... Just no boss for the mounts on one casting.

There's a bunch of info in this thread- http://earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/105257/

Once when I was about 10, I saw a Marine with a Jeep with a diesel.
I thought it was the coolest thing. I know I bothered him, but he cranked it up for me. He had gotten it overseas.

Most tractor applications use the engine for as a frame with the front suspension bolted to the front of the engine. Other industrial uses simply have a front plate as the frame mount. This negates the need for motor mount bosses on the block.

Correct. The 4.203 I have came from a MF wheel loader, and the front cover on it has mounting holes/tabs that would have mounted it in the machine. No smooth boss near the front for studs to hang a fabricated mount from like the Jeep 192.. BUT- I have seen 203/192 blocks in tractors and other machinery that do have the boss at the front of the block that is unused in that application. So..... back to the no rhyme or reason on what ended up where, except that the 203's without the studs and cast in boss won't accept the Jeep motor mounts if you want to keep it looking a factory correct Perkins or at least not modify the Jeep to accept the replacement engine.

I was finally able to source a proper Jeep Perkins 192 to get my CJ-6 back on the road. It also came with the Jeep bellhousing, which of course my CJ-6 already had. My ultimate goal right now for the 4.203 is get it in an FC. Since I have the bellhousing and clutch assy already to bolt to a T-90, all I really need to do is build some motor mounts for the chassis to get the drivetrain all mounted in the FC chassis. The rest should all bolt together.

I for sure will. When I can get started on the FC build I will start a build thread. I really should just sell the running FC I have with the V6 so I can concentrate on the diesel build that I ultimately want to end up with.
