IMG_2890.jpeg So I’ve got my endplay perfect but without any speedo components (tc I sourced had a plug, no driven gear).
My plan is to seal up the front cap, install the intermediate shaft and gears, seal up the pan and wait on the rear cap until I pull my current tc to harvest the speedo gear and bushing, then re check endplay and adjust as necessary.
    Foolish or no problem?
I just want to be done with the dirty work of this current project!

    Thanks,
    Andy

Not sure I understand. You need the rear cap off another case? The speedo gear won't affect anything. Setting the end play with both caps installed is kind of first, but I don't really see any harm in putting the intermediate shaft in, then going back to set end play again later. Actually doubt it will change with a different cap. I wouldn't put the cover on though, that's just tempting Murphy.

Both caps are in place as is. Just need to harvest the speedo gear from the “in service “ tc. Can I drop that driven gear in without removing the rear cap?
That’s why i was going to wait to seal the rear cap until I had that gear ready to transplant.
    Thanks! Assembly will continue tomorrow!

Yes, you can change the speedo gear from the outside. Just not the gear that rides on the output shaft. I've done it when trying to get the speedo ratio correct after changing gears or tires.
