1970 Cj5 Lowering Options?

I had a ‘72 CJ5 that I chained down the suspension on. I used a tractor to compress the springs/axles onto the rubber frame blocks, then chained it, front and rear.
This was done to have “fun runs” at the end of the day of autocrossing. 2nd gear/4WD with an AMC 390, it was a handfull, but surprisingly fast. Ended up breaking a rear leaf, and the brakes weren’t up to the task, though. Not recommended!

You should write a book of your exploits. I would buy it. Sounds like you live/lived a very colorful life.
Also would like to see pictures or at least a list of what your current collection.

 

I wish I had photos of that Jeep. I bought it a month or so after it got rolled out on the beach with 5 people on board (nobody seriously hurt) as they were pulling “freeboarders” around a large pond. I worked on it occasionally for the crazy redhead girl (Jaybird) that previously owned it, and knew it was dangerously fast. Back then, I didn’t appreciate what a 390 out of an AMX was. I sold it to an old highschool buddy about 4 years later.
That autocross was back in the early ‘80s in Virginia Beach, and I attempted to run in A Mod class, but tech failed me, so I got a few fun-runs at the end if the day. A few years ago, I reconnected with a friend that was part of these events. Maybe he or his wife have some photos? Somehow, I survived some crazy stuff when I was young!
