Thinking of putting a D27 PL into a D25....I forget exactly where the case series break occurs (I think its 3.92?), but should work as the PL was for 4.88 D27 and would be going into a 4.27 D25.

looks like it includes different carrier bearings/races/shims a ring gear spacer is needed....Is there any chance the carrier bearings etc are just D27 parts, or are they something unique? Also, guessing that ring gear spacer is something specialty machined, and not available elsewhere?

D25 and 27s have the same case break as a D30, 3.73-5.38 is the same.

The D25 and D27 use the same side and spider gears so the carrier bearings should be the same.

I’ve never done a D25/D27 swap, but understand it can be done by mixing and matching the side bearings and races, but I don’t offhand have the bearing numbers. I’m pretty sure you don’t need that ring gear spacer as long as both applications are Series 4 (3.92-5.38). -Donny

A bit of info on the cj2a page here, but can't seem to track down much more...
    https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/cheap-nos-front-lockers_topic41359.html
oldtime suggests the 25 and 27 cases do not interchange (but I would assume that is with using the standard bearings etc), as well one post suggested some machining to the PL case seat (I assume its the seat for the side gears?) which I assume is because the ring gear position was wrong? Using a spacer might avoid that issue...? May need NickM expertise on this matter......or do I wanna check in with herm specifically....

an old ecj5 thread - didn't really ever finish the discussion of the install, but it seems like we are talking about using dana 25 carrier bearings and races on the D27 PL case and a ring gear spacer to align everything along the axle shaft axis. Seems like the ID of the 25 and 27 carriers bearings are the same, but its the OD/race that is different...Guess the question becomes how thick of a ring gear spacer is it, and would it be available elsewhere....
