So I went from the T86 to the T98 a few years ago and one of the challenges I had was converting the single stick transfer case linkage to fit the new transmission. I fabricated a rig that initially worked just OK, and over time it has gotten more out of whack to the point that I can no longer get to 4L. Been recommended to convert to twin stick, which I tried initially with an off the shelf universal kit. Didn't go well. Now I'm looking at a proper conversion kit. So my question is this. Should I go with the Kaiser super expensive kit that is pretty much guaranteed to work (link below), or can I take the twin stick kit off my other D18 still attached to my T86 and bolt it up? Is there something special about the conversion kit, or is it the same thing as the original twin stick gear?

the kit is just original parts, if you have an orginial twin stick 18 all the parts should swap over.

Avoid two transfercase teardowns to install shafts and forks. Make a twin stick with pivot off of the transmission case.

Yep, no rocket science involved and you will need another hole in the floor anyway. You could modify a pair of the twin stick shifters (hole and heim joint) and everything will still look pretty much stock. Should be dirt simple to make.

When I first tried to make my own twin stick conversion out of one of those generic universal kits, I just had a tough time getting all that linkage to line up just right and stay lined up. If I were to try it again I'd create a new 2nd hinge point somewhere and run it all through that, but at this point I'm just gonna spend the money and buy the conversion kit I think. I do have a twin stick housing, but it lacks everything else including the shifters, so it doesn't do me much good afterall.

    That kit is $350!
You'd get all those parts (except gaskets & seals) by buying a used transfer case.

the only problem I can comment on is
you will wind up grinding some of the maternal off the inside of twin stick housing . to clear side of transmission
just to get the bolts in front housing . nothing big

you could look for the parts you're missing from a member here, and probably get a complete setup for a lot less than that kit. obviously wouldnt be new parts, but in my experience these cases have few common problems.
