Any suggestions on what to buy? Looking at the little box shaped ones from like Klein tools and such. Magnetic would be a plus. What are you cats using and are they accurate, reliable, do they need/get calibrated or zeroed somehow?

We had about 8 different ones in the shop I was at, and all were close to identical readings. From the pricey ones to the cheapest ones off Amazon. I think the parts are all the same inside.

Get one that has a laser built in. It’s invaluable when setting up drivetrain alignment and pinion angles.

The trick to zeroing them out is to stick it to a flat surface, reset zero, then spin it 180°, it should still read zero. If it doesn’t, it’s not set to zero. Find a more level surface and try again. Remember that spot in your shop and use it often.

Had one I purchased from Woodcraft, can't remember the brand, but turned out to be a dud, kept shutting off and wouldn't hold zero? Anyway, picked up the cheap Klein from amazon and have been happy with it. Does have a magnetic base so easy to set angles off my table saw. ITLKSEZ's comment about getting one with a laser is interesting.

Yea. I like the laser idea.

I’d probably set it on my 6’ level to “calibrate “ it.

Magnetic 6" torpedo level with digital readout and set.

I use this with my air over hydro bender as it lets me set 'level' or 'zero' on the input tube and then the degrees off that so I get accurate bends. Goes to .1 degrees.

Ordered and received this one. Can't pronounce the name. I dunno. I played around with it for a few minutes. Seems okay. I don't have any surface known to be perfectly flat to check it against or another tool known to be perfect. I might take it to work and check our smart levels and maybe I'll lay it on my phone while it's in it's "level" mode. In any case, this should be useful to repair and customize the frame on the 3B among other things.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I may still pick up the torpedo level style at some point. We shall see.
