I have a lead on a rotted out tj with a 4.0, ax15 and a 4:1 transfer case in it. I can get it cheap and I was thinking about swapping the 4.0 into my cj7. Will the T18 bolt to the 4.0? In other words, does the 4.0 and 360 share the same bell housing pattern?

Why would you want to give up 120 cubic inches?

Should bolt in. I’ve got a 4.0 in my ‘75 that had a T150 (now NP435) behind it. You might have to deal with an aftermarket pilot bushing depending on the length of the T18 input shaft. Depending on the year TJ, the motor mounts on the block changed towards the end of the production run though. I think the motor mounts are in the right spot on the frame between the AMC era inline 6s and V8s too. Only other thing to worry about will be the crank position sensor on the bellhousing that you can either machine a location for it, or there are aftermarket options to move it to the harmonic balancer.

After fixing the exhaust leaks, I most certainly have a rod knock. :( I might just pull the engine and swap cranks too. Just exploring options.
