this is more of an issue with single stage paint than base clear. yours looks fine . I have been spraying sherwin williams cat yellow at work and have had some issues with the finish I think they changed the formula or the thinner has been changed. And yes with proper prep it should hold up fine, wait 30 days for the wax.

The body is on the frame - but the bolts aren’t tightened just yet.

Wow, I really like that color on your jeep. All of my boyhood Tonka truck dreams come to mind!

The body mounts are tightened. Other pieces and parts are going on now - pedals & master cylinders, etc.

I hung the steering wheel & shaft to see how the shaft will get to the box up front. I might, just might get lucky, and be able to use the original shaft!! I’d be thrilled to do so, as that would save a pile of money. Borgeson joints are expensive.

Look at all that room. That motor fits right in there. Also, interesting how much higher in the firewall the steering shaft goes through, in relation ot a ECJ. That really straightens out the u-joint angle.

The hood clears the intake manifold by a good four inches! The PCM will fit nicely on the driver side inner fender, so I’m happy about that. Things are shaping up. This just might work!!

When you don't have to put a big ol' air cleaner on top, there's all kinds of room.

I did some more painting this morning: inside of the hood, the grille and the tailgate.

    IMG_3692.jpeg

Yesterday, the big brown truck of happiness brought my Summit stuff, so the new rag joint can be attached to the original steering shaft (with an adapter welded on the end of the shaft).

    IMG_3691.jpeg

Tomorrow, I’ll paint the top of the hood, as well as the fenders. A local glass shop cut & installed new glass in the windshield frame. The wiper motor and crank assembly are in, the hinges are on, the new gasket is screwed to the frame. I guess that can go on, too. The dash isn’t in, so there aren’t any latches to hold it upright. I gotta be careful with that.

Once the back of the dash is mostly wired, that will go in. The steering wheel and shaft will come out soon for cleanup and paint. Gotta dismantle the Sparton signal switch to see why the right turn signal circuit is open…

One of these days, I hafta get at the seats, seat belts and roll cage, I guess. Safety third!

I was going to leave it black on the inside but changed my mind.

I think that plum crazy purple is the wrong color for anything but a Dodge Charger. It’s not right for a Jeep.
Over this coming winter, I’ll get the disc brakes off “your” D30 and onto mine.

More yellow! The hood & fenders got covered today. Shiny! There are some saggies in the fenders; either the operator or the spray gun decided to lay paint on heavier this time. Oh, well. If I was the picky sort, I’d fix them.

Whatever has to be painted after this will get the rattle-can treatment: roll bar, steering column, seat mounts, etc..

True enough. Next to the welded on patches, they’ll hardly be noticeable!
