I'm pulling my T14 and D18 out of my Jeep this week to do a clutch replacement. While they're on the bench I'm hoping to address some of their many leaks.

An issue I've noticed with them is oil level. When the T14 is serviced to full the D18 is way overfilled. This can't be helping with the leak situation. Clearly they share oil and rapidly too.

I seem to recall there exists a sealed bearing for the T90 output. This coupled with some plugs and a gasket enable the T90 and D18 to not share oil. Do such parts and techniques exist for the T14?

    And information is appreciated.

My t98 and D18 were sharing fluid when they weren’t supposed to. The reason it happened was the vent tube on the top of the d18 was clogged causing pressure to build when warm and the oil would be forced through the bearing into the trans. once unclogged, the problem went away.

Before you start changing parts for unknowns, maybe work your way through and see if you can fix what you have?
You can also try adding Lucas oil to your gear oil. It thickens it up and might help with any leak-through.

The t14 and d18 share fluid. Nothing wrong about it. Ken is looking for advice about the bearings so it won't share between them

You could just slow down when adding oil to the transmission to allow time for it to level off with the transfer case.

About the only way to seal the transmission is to get the number off the output bearing and see if you can get a sealed bearing as a replacement. Pick the inner seal out so the bearing is washing in gear oil, then seal the transfer hole between the trans and t case, either with a sealant or a solid gasket.

I think you misunderstand the issue. When in the vehicle the fill plug of the D18 sits below the level of the fill plug of the T14. No matter the rate you add fluid, if you keep the T14 full to the level of its plug then the D18 fill plug will be overfilled.

I worked on the unit a bit today. Both transmission and transfer case drive well so I opted to hold off on separating them for now. Maybe down the road if either unit needs a rebuild I'll pursue a sealed bearing. I found both the front and rear output seals of the D18 were leaking as well as some from the input to the T14. This is in addition to the speedometer cable. I'm hoping addressing these issues will slow the overall leak to an acceptable rate.
