Any chance that the 1 1/4“ nut that holds a D18 main drive gear onto a SM-420 main shaft is left handed? I’m having a heck of a time getting it off and want to make sure I am not tightening it!

It's right hand thread but it's torqued to the moon.

I am n ot familiar with the 420 so wait for confirmation but, I doubt it is left handed. That nut typically has a torque spec of around 180 - 220 lb/ft. It can be a bugger to remove. A good impact gun is useful.

If it were left hand thread you would not be able to put an overdrive on em.

Harbor Freight sells a Bauer corded impact wrench with 1050 Frt. Lbs. breakaway torque. I got one as a door prize at a Jeep event, and that baby will loosen just about anything.

They also sell a couple of 20-volt battery power impact wrenches that go up to1400 ft. lbs.

I think it is time for an upgrade. My craftsman pneumatic impact wrench has max 230 torque.

A while back I needed to change the blades on my bush hog. Great big nuts torqued to 450 ft lbs. I bought a battery operated "Kobalt" branded impact wrench that spun them right off. I liked it so well I bought a smaller battery operated Bosch branded impact wrench and haven't used my air impact since.

I bought a Bauer battery impact gun at Horrible fright a few years back. I am yet to be disappointed with its performance. It knocks apart some tough stuff. Happy with the purchase.
