5.0 In A 66 Cj5

Does anyone have ideas/experience swapping out a 225 for a Ford 5.0? I inherited a 5.0 HO that I am thinking about dropping in my Jeep. Any insight is helpful. TIA

A 66, if stock, would have a T86 3 speed, which was weak behind a V6. Your plans should include a transmission swap.

 

Yep, the T86AA had a difficult time staying together behind the 225 and its not something I would want behind any V8. Seems like a Ford T18 would be the ticket for this.

 

While I'm a 5.0 fan, and it's a great jeep engine, The 225 is plenty strong to break every part on that jeep.. Going 5.0 you are going to need some considerable upgrades through the rest of the driveline.

Correct, it does have the T86AA 3 speed trans. The plan would include a ford T18 swap as well.

I have a fuel injected 5.0 in my 3A. It's a tight fit in a flatty, but makes plenty of power. It's got an NP435 behind it mated to a Dana 18. Hi Pinion 44 rear and a 30 front, both with air lockers and 35's.
