Canvas Tops On Ebay

Is anyone else been keeping up with the Canvas thread over on the 2a forum? It’s a guy from India called gistore and he seems to be taking input. The tops ARE NOT original but look pretty good and at reasonable prices. I like some of the things and not others. The first couple pages are about the guy using others pics but the later pages get into the nitty gritty. If considering a top, you should read thru it.

 

I noticed the thread, didn't get past the bantering. Really a touchy subject. It is a lot of work to make a top, sort of good to have an affordable source but you get what you pay for. I think he wanted a picture to represent the general item... in a quick and easy method ie cut and paste (who am I to judge I just stole my avatar picture)

Read it, make your own opinions.

 

My experience with sellers from India has been absolutely appalling. With both product description versus actual quality, and with follow-up on complaints.

And the Ebay warranty protections did not apply to India.

 

Are the tops being made and delivered now? I need something for my 3B and India should be big on 3Bs.

 

If you get past the initial pages of the bantering and get to the later ones, it looks like real progress is happening and actual top arriving and getting good comments, but some changes need to be made. Just an option.

 

Those are not complaints, mostly those are not even reviews. Because so few have purchased anything to review.
We have a situation very similar to when Rommel worked for MD Juan. During his employment he put a LOT toward improving the body MD Juan body kits.

This time with Subodh we have an interactive distributor who wants to sell old jeep tops.
I immediately noticed his willingness to communicate and we first addressed the issue of stolen images,
With that issue resolved “bight” and myself felt he would have a market here in the in the US if he would listen to forum members (the consumers).
He is in both public and private communication with bight and myself in an effort to improve the product and make it more desirable to own and use.
As you know we have a need for quality canvas tops designed and made to fit the original bows.
Subodh wants to distribute and we have a need.
He is personally involved and has a desire to produce a quality product. Price is not the issue it is one of quality and pride of ownership.

 

That was exactly my take on the thread. As I said, get past the first few pages then you get to the meat and it is another option at a reasonable price. And I appreciate the efforts of the two of you on working on this and am seriously considering this option.

 

They have a lot more than tops from this manufacturer. I just bought several new parts for the project I’m working on. Some of the items much cheaper than I could find anywhere else. Rear crossmember, taillights, chain covers, grill / hood welting, chrome headlight bezel. I’ll try to remember to report initial impressions here. Ya’ get what ya’ pay for.

 

Do canvas Jeep tops smell like the canvas tents at Boy Scout camp when it rains?

 

Canvass tents from the 60’s had that true WWII vintage smell because they were really WWII. At least the surplus ones my family had.

 

It seems to me that the old wax based dressing has become very scarce. I was fond of the aroma, but today everyone wants to sell silicone products.

 

The tops from GiStore don’t have the old waxed canvas aroma. The material looks to be much tougher than the waxed 100% cotton canvas. It is a poly/cotton blend.
I have several large waxed cotton utility tarps and yes they have the aroma that goes along with it.

 

I've been browsing canvas summer tops lately and have been guilty of immediately discounting a listing if i notice it ships from india. This thread though has made me reconsider! Especially since the alot of the american sourced tops I've seen seem to either have MONTHS of wait time or no availability at all.
