I may be mistaken but I think folks were adapting 60/40 seats from other vehicles “back in the day”
You could of course have a 60/40 seat that was originally installed in the Dispatcher jeep, which was basically a stripped down 2wd version of the early jeeps.

I read somewhere on the other flatty forums that the earliest 60/40 was a modified rear seat of the time and a standard passenger seat. The seat backs didn't match. If you have the 60 the 40 is not the issue. Later the 40 side became a fold and tumble seat.

I can supply a little Bench Seat Info. I have a '60 CJ5 that came with the 60 / 40 style seat. It wasn't any good so I let a forum member have it yrs ago. Now this Jeep been sitting under an old steel tarp out back the garden all this time. Fast forward to today, I am letting one my old schoolmates have this Jeep for his 13 yr old grand son. I had intended to install M38A1 Military seats, and I am letting the seat frames go with the Jeep. But when I set the seat frame up into the tub on the pass side the hinge puts the seat frame WAY too far back, about 4" or so. Hmmmm...so I started diging in my piles of valuable collectable stuff & found the Military M38A1 hinge brackets. They mount with only 1 bolt & overhang the toolbox front. The bench seat brackets sit most way back in front of the tool box lid & mount with two bolts. You could make the Military ones work by grinding the overhanging lip offa them, but they wouldn't be as stout as the correct ones are. I will try to post a photo of them tomorrow. So if anybody is hunting a 60 / 40 seat be sure to get the hinge brackets with the seat!

I just got a 60/40 today from a 74 and started fitting it to my 46. They look like they will fit pretty well it is using the 1 bolt passenger brackets. I measured the tub width and its the same as my 67 cj5. For some reason its 2" closer to the passenger side right now and the driver side gap is pretty big so im going to cut an inch off the driver jam mount and move them both over to the driver side then they will be more centerd. That will mean I need to modify the driver front leg so it doesnt hit the right side of the tank. Then i will modify the mountings on the passenger side to wherever they need to be. I might just tweek the seat so I can keep the original locations of the 2a brackets we'll see what works best.
